Dr Kirsten Murray
Dr Kirsten Murray graduated from Medicine with First Class Honours in 1994 from the University of Queensland. She completed part of her physician training at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, and then completed her Advanced Endocrinology training at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. She actively participates in teaching and education of junior and senior doctors and nursing staff. She attends national and international conferences regularly. Her main areas of interest include type 2 diabetes, insulin pump therapy, management of endocrine conditions before and during pregnancy (including diabetes), pituitary and adrenal disorders and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Dr Murray has Vising Medical Officer Appointments at John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle Private Hospital, Lingard Private Hospital and Lake Macquarie Private Hospital.

What is an Endocrinologist?
An Endocrinologist is a specialist physician who manages diseases related to hormones and endocrine glands. Dr Murray is a General Endocrinologist and manages all aspects of Endocrine disease and has a special interest in Diabetes.
Dr Elisa Tyson
Dr Tyson graduated in Medicine with First Class Honours from the University of New South Wales. She completed her postgraduate training in Endocrinology at Concord Hospital, Sydney and the John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. Dr Tyson finished her PhD in 2009 at the University of Newcastle, focusing on endocrine signalling in the uterus during pregnancy.
Dr Tyson works full time in private practice in Newcastle and Hornsby, Sydney. She consults in all aspects of adult endocrinology, including diabetes, thyroid and pituitary, with an interest in osteoporosis. Dr Tyson is a member of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, Endocrine Society of Australia and the Endocrine Society (USA).
Dr Annalise Philcox
Dr Annalise Philcox is an adult Endocrinologist and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2010. She currently works at the Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital as a General Physician and Endocrinologist, and she is the Clinical Lead in the Hunter Alliance Diabetes Project.
Dr Philcox completed her medical studies at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, graduating with Honours, and was a student at St Vincent’s Hospital. She has worked in many centres of excellence including Concord, Princess Alexandra and Canberra Hospitals. Dr Philcox was also a Research Scholar at Duke University Medical Centre, North Carolina, USA, dedicating her year to Osteoporosis research. Her current interests include diabetes and general endocrinology. She is also a College examiner, and supervises and teaches medical students, junior doctors and advanced trainees.
Dr Deniz Kuzulugil
Dr Deniz Kuzulugil is an endocrinologist whose main areas of interest include diabetes, pituitary and adrenal disorders. She was in the inaugural year and completed her medical degree at Western Sydney University in 2011 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Endocrinology in 2019 after completing her training at The Canberra Hospital and John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. She has presented her research at national and international meetings including the American Diabetes Association Scientific Meeting in 2019. Dr Kuzulugil is fluent in Turkish.
Johanna Kuehn
Dr Johanna Kuehn is an Adult Endocrinologist who manages all aspects of Endocrinology including type I and type II diabetes, insulin pump therapy, thyroid and parathyroid disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, menopause, osteoporosis, pituitary and adrenal disease. She has a special interest in endocrine disorders during pregnancy and has published in the field of gestational diabetes.
Dr Kuehn is a PHD graduate from Germany. She completed her studies in the field of medical microbiology. She started her postgraduate training within Hunter New England Local Health District (NSW) in 2011 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2021. Dr Kuehn trained in the field of Endocrinology at the John Hunter Hospital (Newcastle) and Gosford District Hospital (Central Coast) and in General Medicine at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus. She is a member of the Endocrine Society of Australia and the Australian Diabetes Society.
Andrew Maher
Andrew completed his Bachelor of Nursing in 2004 at the University of Western Sydney, Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Management at the University of Technology Sydney in 2014, Diabetes Masters of Nurse Practice at the University of Newcastle in 2020 and is a Credentialed Diabetes Educator with the Australian Diabetes Educator Association.
Andrew has worked as a Diabetes Nurse Practitioner in rural and remote areas of NSW and Northern Territory. He has a special interest in Diabetes and Exercise, Men’s Health in Diabetes and is a fully Certified Insulin Pump and Continuous Glucose Monitor Trainer.
When not working, Andrew is fond of the outdoors and enjoys trail running, camping and gardening.
As well as working in our Adamstown rooms, Andrew is running a Remote Diabetes Nurse Practitioner Telehealth Clinic to support patients living in rural areas. This clinic offers educational sessions, resources and support with interactive sessions to help individuals living with any form of diabetes understand their condition, make informed treatment decisions, implement sustainable lifestyle changes and empower them with knowledge.
The clinic will offer comprehensive support to patients to help them in their journey of living with diabetes. Education that can be provided includes pathophysiology of diabetes, how diabetes medications work, nutrition advice, insulin dose titration and technology support.
